The Bay of Islands is known as the fishing capital of NZ. Not only known for its amazing scenery and of course the famous "Hole in the rock" but some of the best fishing in the world. Russell just a short hop across the water from Paihia, known as Kororareka. In the early 19th century it was the first permanent European settlement and seaport in New Zealand. It is situated in the Bay of Islands, in the far north of the North Island.
